First Impressions Online: How Imagery Affects Buying Decisions
You have about three seconds.
That's roughly how long it takes someone to form an opinion about your business when they land on your website. Three seconds before they've read a single word. Before they've looked at your services, your pricing, or your about page.
What are they looking at in those three seconds? Your imagery.
It sounds simple, but the implications are pretty significant. If the photography on your site feels cheap, dated or inconsistent, that's the first impression. And first impressions online are incredibly difficult to recover from.
Think about the last time you landed on a website and immediately felt like you were in good hands. Chances are the visuals had a lot to do with that. A clean, well-lit headshot. A hero image that actually reflects the quality of the business behind it. Photography that feels intentional.
Now think about the opposite.
People aren't consciously critiquing your photography when they visit your site. They're just feeling something, trust or the lack of it. Credibility, or a quiet doubt. That gut response is almost entirely visual, and it happens fast.
For businesses investing in their marketing, their website, their LinkedIn presence, it makes sense to make sure the imagery is pulling its weight. Because no matter how good the copy is, how strong the offer is, or how much you've spent on SEO... if the photos let it down, people leave.
And they usually don't come back.
